Creating Promo Codes: Best Practices
When setting up promo codes for your rewards or referrals, using a clear and consistent naming format ensures codes are easily understood and identified. This article outlines best practices for creating effective promo codes within the Duel platform.
Promo Code Format Guidelines
To maintain consistency and clarity, we recommend following this naming convention:
- Start with the program or tier name
- Use a recognizable label such as the campaign name, reward tier, or community identifier.
- If the name is too long, use a shortened or abbreviated version.
- Add a dash for visual clarity between the program name and the randomized characters.
- Follow with at least 4 randomized alphanumeric characters
- Alphanumeric codes (a mix of letters and numbers) are harder to guess and more secure than just using words or numbers.
Examples
-
BEAUTYCOMMUNITY-6A8E
-
BRONZE-P15G
-
GLOW-X92T
-
AMB-T9D3 (shortened version of “Ambassadors”)
Additional Tips
-
Length: Keep the full code reasonably short (ideally under 20 characters) to make it easy to share and enter.
-
Avoid confusing characters: Consider excluding similar-looking characters like O and 0, I and 1 if codes will be entered manually.
-
Uniqueness: Ensure all codes are unique within the program to avoid conflicts.
-
Consistency: Stick to a consistent format across your campaigns to make internal tracking and user communication easier.
