What are direct notifications?
Direct notifications let you send a one-time message to a specific advocate from their profile in the Duel dashboard. They're useful for personalised outreach — for example, to follow up with an individual or send a reward.
Direct notifications are different from program-wide notifications, which are sent to all advocates in a program. You can learn more in the Program Notifications article.
🚨 Direct notifications do not currently trigger a push notification. The advocate must be logged into their Duel portal to see the message.
Send Notification
Use this option to compose and send a direct message to a specific advocate.
💻 Navigate to Advocates > select an advocate profile > Send Notification
- Locate the advocate you want to message in the Advocates tab.
- Open their profile and click 🔔 Send Notification.
- Compose your message and send.

Award Bonus Points
Use this option to send a message along with bonus points as a reward.
💻 Navigate to Advocates > select an advocate profile > Manage > Award Bonus Points
- Open the advocate's profile and go to the Manage tab.
- Click Award Bonus Points.
- Enter the number of points and compose your message.

Adding an action link
Both notification types support an optional action, which directs the advocate somewhere when they tap the notification.
You can link to either:
- A URL — any external or internal link
- A specific task — sends the advocate directly to a task in their portal
💡 Pro Tip: Adding an action link increases the chance an advocate acts on the notification — use it to point them to a new task or a reward they've unlocked.
