What are Referrals & Affiliates?

Referrals & Affiliates allow brands to establish rules for rewarding advocates who share affiliate links or referral codes. Brands have the option to reward customers with points, commission, or a combination of both.

The Referrals & Affiliates feature uses a "waterfall priority" system, meaning that rules are applied in a top-down order. The first rule that applies to a specific audience (group/tier) will take precedence. See dedicated article on boosting commission or referrals using this feature.

You have the flexibility to rearrange the rules as needed, making it easy to customise and prioritise them according to your preferences. This allows you to easily swap rules in and out to suit your specific needs.

Referrals & Affiliates Definitions

Channel is the type of referral feature you're enabling for the target group and the rewarding rules associated with it.

Referral Code - Referral codes will need to be uploaded into the rule

Affiliate Link - An affiliate link will be generated for the advocate the target group

All Channels - Both channels

Reward is the type and quantity of rewards for a successful referral using the selected channel.

Commission - Brands either reward advocates a fixed/flat commission on successful referrals or a percentage of the orders value

Points - Points can be rewarded for successful referrals either using a fixed/flat points per X order or a percentage of value

Commission & Points - Allows a combination of both reward types

Group's are the target group for the rule, either selected as an entire group but more commonly tier by tier.

Add promotion if the referral code channel is selected then a batch of referral code will need to be uploaded. These are automatically distributed when an advocate is in the correct

 group associated.

Order value to point conversion if awarding points use this setting to attribute the point conversion rates

Promote when using multiple promo code batches on a single referral rule a brand can prioritise certain batches above others.

This runs from 99 being the highest, down to 1 being the lowest priority.

E.g Code batch 1 is promoted at 90
Code batch 2 is promoted at 80

In the above case, if an applicable code exists in batch 1 it'll be given to an advocate, only if there are no applicable codes will the advocate receive a code from batch 2.

Automatic Commission Management

While an order is still pending, you can update the commission payout through our order tracking integration by making adjustments to the order. This is useful in cases of cancellations or returns.

Once an order is marked as complete, the automatic payment system will promptly process the payout to the advocate's PayPal account.

If a brand decides not to issue a commission on a specific order, it is essential to mark that order as cancelled in the system (located under Orders > Referrals Commission) within the designated timeframe.

For instance, if your brand operates with a 30-day return policy, we recommend extending this timeframe to 45 days. This additional period provides the brand with a 15-day buffer to cancel any payments if necessary.

💡 If a brand is not using Duel's automatic payments they can disable this feature and still use the Duel software to track owed and paid commissions manually

Defer referral point attribution

The option to delay the allocation of points for successful referrals by a predetermined number of days, allowing brands to account for their return policy timeframe, for instance.
